The Learning Huddle Vision
A computer Geek! Our founder is a bit of an internet geek and so not surprisingly when his kids went to school he became really interested in how to use the internet to help in education. He was a bit shocked at what he found. It was hard to find sites about commonly taught topics, there was no way for teachers to monitor kids' progress and some of the material was just plain wrong! So LearningHuddle.com was born. Talking to teachers We wanted to create a site that provides teachers with lots of interesting material to help make teaching easier. We spent time talking to teachers who told us that there was some great content on the web but they had to trawl about to find it. They'd spend hours researching just to find a few pages. Often they'd go to sites and find that although the content was useful, the adverts were inappropriate. Teachers also told us about the lack of a mechanism for checking and following pupils' progress; so we added a question system. This system enables teachers to add questions about any page in the website by using a simple session creation tool. Importantly these questions can be created by the teachers themselves. We also include a question bank of several hundred questions preapared for us by teachers. Crossing the subject boundaries Part of the Learning Huddle vision is to enable cross curriculum learning. We believe passionately that topics offer a unique platform to enable teaching across subject boundaries. By using topics we believe that you can blend together in a seamless manner literacy, numeracy and any other subject you want. We think it's possible to design tailored courses with modules and lesson plans that can fit each and every pupil and at each and every level. Watching the future We've watched as the faces of pupils light up when they use our system. We've seen their fascination with the topics and their love of the pictures. We've seen the excitement of the children when they use the internet. They are transported from the normal classroom into a world that lies partly in their imagination. Watching the excitement of children and the possibilities that topic based teaching provides drives us each day to do more and evangelise topic based teaching for exciting pupil-led learning. |
