The Curriculum for Excellence

How can Learning Huddle help with the Curriculum for Excellence ?

The Curriculum for Excellence has been introduced across Scotland.  It's an initiative to take teachers' experience and the experience of other professionals to build a new and effective programme of teaching for Scottish pupils. Learning Huddle has been designed with many of the Curriculum for Excellence principles built in: for example, the ability to use the topics across multiple subjects.

There are many parts to the Curriculum for Excellence falling into five levels which progress into qualifications.

Level

Stage

Early The pre school years, Primary 1 and in some cases a bit later depending on ability and progression
First Up to the end of Primary 4 and in some cases a bit earlier or a bit later depending on ability and progression
Second Up to the end of Primary 7 and in some cases a bit earlier or a bit later depending on ability and progression
Third and fourth S1 to S3 and in some cases a bit earlier or a bit later depending on ability and progression

The Curriculum for Excellence has established different areas to build upon:

  • Successful Learners
  • Confident Individuals
  • Responsible Citizens
  • Effective Contributors

There has been a real effort to build the Curriculum for Excellence from the "bottom up" by using the experience of teachers.  The areas targeted by the Curriculum for Excellence are: Language, Mathematics, Health and Well Being, Social Sciences, Technologies, RME, Sciences and Expressive Arts.  In addition it has been expressed that Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Well Being should be cross subject responsibilities.

The Curriculum for Excellence and Learning Huddle

There is extensive information about the Curriculum for Excellence available and Learning Huddle aims to be as supportive as possible to its objectives.  Learning Huddle allows clear cross subject cooperation and encouragement.  Through the use of topic based learning we believe that it is possible to build courses and lessons that actively blend together the various learning needs of pupils from multiple subjects.  This style of learning actively encourages pupils to take the lead within the context set down and led by the teacher.

To help schools develop lessons within the context of the Curriculum for Excellence, Learning Huddle provides an ever-growing number of courses and lessons.  These are set within the context of courses on topic areas.  So whatever you hope to achieve with the Curriculum for Excellence, Learning Huddle aims to support you.
